Speech is silver…Silence is gold |

Tearing our team apart is the easiest thing we can do. The hard road is to try altogether and resurrect PAOK. Criticizing is easy and convenient. Being patient requires guts. Focusing on the tree is the trap whereas having the ability of seeing the forest as a whole is luminous. Our instinct leads us to instantly express our bitterness in public. But keeping this feeling to ourselves is a conscious sacrifice.
And yes my friends. Sacrifice. Again and again and again. Is there any problem with that? We are all PAOK supporters aren’t we? We spent a lifetime doing what?
Unfortunately the answer is readily given. “We will become “vegetables” unless we speak...” But this is not the way it has to be. PAOK does not need our opinions or our points of views. PAOK has administrators, due to our personal fights and decisions, and they are the ones who shall take all necessary decisions.
First we disputed. Now, we have crossed the line and we started beating each other…It is remarkable to note that these things did not happen not even when the major crook Goumenos was the President of PAOK. So, why have we started adopting such methods now?
We were supposed to be patient this season. It’s been less than one year since Zagorakis undertook the management of PAOK and we suddenly ran out of patience?
But I can slightly hear the excuse: “This season is the most humiliating of our history...” My answer to this allegation is that we have indeed experienced worse humiliation. And the funny thing is that we were cheering Dusan, Dusan. But set aside how this team plays. This mess and this humiliation were a daily experience the past few years. From the way that our team was administrated up to how our team was performing. But throughout all these years our rage did not lead us to start beating each other…
My brothers, this mess is not a consequence of certain mistakes. It purely emanates from one single reason. All this fog that kept us blind has suddenly cleared out and as a result we observe the naked truth regarding our beloved team. I can resemble this situation with a patient who refuses to believe that he has cancer. The doctor had been telling the truth but we cursed him. The denial of our serious condition led us to seek someone who would tell us beautiful lies. But this will not change the fact that we have cancer.
So what we do now is swearing the doctor who was honest with us and at the same time he was trying to help us.
Whining and misery do not fit into the notion which is called PAOK. We need to have the balls and the lucidity in order to be united. PAOK is the patient and the condition is serious. The operation for restoring PAOK’s health has begun and the last thing we need is to argue and conflict about how the operation should be performed.
We have two options; we can either wait patiently outside the operating theater or we can cancel the operation and go to another doctor. But no matter how difficult or hard it sounds, intervening during the surgery in order to express our preferences is not an option. We simply don’t know and by disorientating the doctor we will harm the patient we love.
Each one of us has his/her opinion regarding our coach, our players, our stadium, our athletic centre etc. But if we really desire to materialize the vision of a team that will escape from the rotten reality of our city and country, we need to learn to discern our roles. Moreover, we must learn to distinguish when criticism becomes harmful and when silence is really gold.
Patience..there are only 7 days left for our “torture” to finish. After these 7 days we must understand that PAOK will perform his major attempt, in our 82 years of history, in order to incarnate all our million supporters’ dreams. What we need to do is to declare our presence and unselfishly help this ambitious effort. And we shall do that because we love PAOK and all the notions that these 4 letters accompany. Each one with his/her own way.
My last few words will be a wish. May this attempt made by Zagorakis not to be crushed by transient bitterness. We have to be united so that the double headed eagle will proudly unfold his wings and fly as high as the sun… PAOKCURE (translated by GkaZ4) 17/04/2008 |
